Writing Question

Final Paper: For this writing assignment, you will be expected to write a short final

paper by referring to the readings, documentaries and topics covered in the entire course.

This writing assignment is presented as an opportunity for you to demonstrate that you

can apply what you are learning in the class to your own critical thinking, and practice

the anthropological/sociological approaches to the study of Middle Eastern societies

(along with relevant concepts, terms and theoretical approaches) and demonstrate your

critical reflections on a topic of your choice.

– You will be expected to write your paper by using the anthropological/sociological

lens through which you will interpret and connect your topic to larger social-politicalcultural-economic issues.

– The paper will be maximum 5 double-spaced pages, including the bibliography.

Further explanation about the paper will be made through announcements. It is also

highly suggested that you consult with me about your topic for the paper.

– The final paper will be due the last day of the Winter semester, Friday, January 21 by

midnight (EST time).
