Describe how an authoritative, authoritarian, rejecting-neglecting, and permissive-indulgent parent might respond to each of the 4 scenarios.
1. Your first-grader has been having trouble in reading class. Thus, your child has been meeting with a tutor once a week after school. The tutor is only available on that day, and your child has a reading test coming up in two days. However, on this particular day, your child’s best friend who recently moved away is back in town for one day only. Your child has begged you to be able to play with the friend instead of going to tutoring…how do you respond?
2. You and your 4-year-old child are just finishing up a shopping trip, and your child begins to ask for a candy bar. It is now 5:00 and you are planning on eating dinner soon. How do you respond?
3. Your 5-year-old daughter has chosen to wear a short-sleeved shirt and skirt to school (no coat, gloves, hat) even though it is the dead of winter. How do you respond?
4. Your 3-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter are engaged in a battle over who gets to play their favorite video game. How do you respond?
