There are many problematic events in the period of time known as “reconstruction.” Reconstruction (1865 to 1876) was the period of time after the war that the southern states were to submit new state constitutions to the federal government for approval. During this time Carpetbaggers (corrupt men from the North) took advantage of southerners economical, a United States President is impeached, The Freedman’s Bureau is formed, Radical Republicans control the government, the south is divided into military districts overseen by generals, the KKK and southern rifle clubs are formed and the first Black representatives are brought into the United States government.

Questions:

1. What was the Freedman’s Bureau?

2. What were the rifle clubs that were formed in the south?

3. What was and is the KKK?

4. Who saw to the disillusion of the first KKK ?

There will be a final exam on Monday the 9th. It will be multiple choice.
